ABOUT THE COURSE
The course has been designed around the Person-Centred and Experiential approach (PCET) and will be delivered by a highly qualified and knowledgeable tutor team in delivering psychotherapeutic counselling training.
This qualification is designed to give learners the knowledge, skills, and competencies to work in different counselling areas.
It will enable learners to work as self-employed counsellors in independent practice.
It will provide a psychotherapeutic counselling qualification for different areas of employment.
It also prepares learners to take on a senior counselling role in an organisational context where client assessment, referral and routine evaluation are part of the role.
Counsellors are increasingly expected to have the knowledge and skills of counselling research and how it impacts on effective counselling practice and the course will provide the opportunity for learners to develop such knowledge.
The qualification is also mapped to the following professional and occupational standards:
- QAA benchmark standards for counselling and psychotherapy
- Counselling and Mental Health National Occupational Standards
- BACP Core Curriculum

COURSE DETAILS
The course consists of:
120 Guided Learning hours
Credit value – 46 credits
The course is a one-year L5 Diploma in Psychotherapeutic Counselling based on CPCAB’s model of practitioner development and therapeutic change and runs over 9 weekend Blocks from March 2024 to December 2024

The nine Blocks of the course will run face-to-face on Saturday/Sunday from 9am to 5.15pm.

COURSE REQUIREMENTS
Client Work:
A minimum of 60 hours formally contracted counselling (one-to-one) including client assessment.
Clinical Supervision:
A minimum of 12 hours supervision is required which may be either group or one-to-one supervision.
ENTRY REQUIREMENTS
Applicants will be expected to have obtained the CPCAB TC-L4 Diploma in Therapeutic Counselling or its equivalent (minimum 420 Guided Learning Hours).
Some personal and professional attributes that will be required on the course include:
- Ability to identify reasons for training beyond personal development
- Academically able to cope with this level of training
- Emotional stability, resilience, and the absence of disturbance
- Personal qualities of imagination, sensitivity, and an ability to benefit from self-development
- Ability to meet others openly and honestly and the resilience to meet the challenges this may at times present
- Ability to form therapeutic relationships based on the person-centred and experiential approach
